Bishop officially opens Mendip Crematorium
On Wednesday 8th June the Bishop of Taunton, the Right Reverend Peter Maurice, officially opened the new Mendip Crematorium at Shepton Mallet.
The Opening Ceremony and Service of Dedication was led by Bishop Peter. The service was attended by local dignitaries, funeral directors, ministers and celebrants, representatives of Dignity Funerals and the construction company.
In the near future members of the public will be invited to an Open Day when they will be able to view the crematorium grounds and facilities. Staff will be available at this event to answer any questions that visitors have about the cremation process or the services that Mendip Crematorium will provide.
Mendip Crematorium will be managed by Dignity, the leading UK crematoria operator who operate 34 other sites in towns and cities across the country.
Tony Frewin, Crematoria Regional Manager for Dignity said, "Mendip Crematorium will provide the local community with the highest possible standards of service and facilities that are second to none. We are offering shorter journey times and services that last 45 minutes so that families do not feel rushed on the day they want to remember their loved ones. The grounds of the crematorium will continue to be developed so that the visitors have a place of beauty and tranquillity in which to pay their last respects.
