Communities to benefit from new crematoria
Dignity has consolidated its position as the largest operator of crematoria in the UK with the acquisition of another five sites. These are:
- Three Counties Crematorium, Braintree
- Wear Valley Crematorium, Bishop Auckland
- Sherwood Forest Crematorium, Ollerton
- East Lancashire Crematorium, Bury
- Charnock Richard Crematorium, Chorley
These five sites build on our existing portfolio of 25 crematoria and are a very good geographical fit with our existing locations.
Commenting on the acquisition, chief executive Mike McCollum said: “There have only been 15 new crematoria built in the UK in the last nine years. We have built one of these in Holytown and have now secured another five.”
“These crematoria are state of the art with very modern facilities,” continued Mike. “They will enable us to offer increased convenience for the local community with shorter journey times and we will be able to provide longer service times than other crematoria in the area.”
Three of the crematoria are fitted with the latest mercury abatement technology making them environmentally friendly.
“We will continue to develop these relatively new crematoria to ensure that the communities we serve receive the highest level of service,” said Steve Gant, General Manager for Crematoria. “All the staff at these sites have been retained by Dignity and will be trained in our current policies and procedures. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone at the new crematoria to the Dignity team.”
