Dignity crematorium hosts the first Royal British Legion Service of Reflection
The first Royal British Legion Service of Reflection was held at Randalls Park Crematorium, Leatherhead, Surrey, on Sunday 17 August. The Service was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One and to remember those that gave their lives protecting Britain and its interests between 1914 and 1918.
The Service was organised by members of the Royal British Legion in Surrey following the Dedication of the Poppy Garden at Randall’s Park last year. Approximately 120 people were in attendance, including members of the Royal British Legion, Sir Paul Beresford, MP for Mole Valley local dignitaries and staff from the crematorium.
Two local ministers conducted the service, Reverend Chris Luckraft, County Chaplain for Royal British Legion, Surrey, and Reverend Graham Osborne, Rector of Leatherhead Parish Church.
Alex May, manager at Randalls Park Crematorium, said: “Everything went beautifully including the weather. Just as the service started, the red arrows flew over. They couldn’t have timed it better!”
Representatives from the Royal British Legion were delighted to hold their first Service of Reflection at the Memorial Poppy Garden.
Paul Wakeham of the organisation said: “I would like to give a very special thanks to Alex May at Randalls Park who has been so supportive in donating the Memorial Garden at Randalls Park. Our thanks go to all the staff and helpers on the day.”
Light refreshments were provided after the service and there was a chance for everyone to reflect on the moving and poignant service.
