Reverend John Davis conducting the Dedication Service in "The Wolds Way" Memorial Garden
East Riding Crematorium welcomes visitors to Open Day
On Saturday 13 September members of the public had the opportunity to attend an Open Day at East Riding Crematorium and see all the facilities and services available to bereaved families. A Dedication Service was also held in the Chapel for the new Memorial Garden, “The Wolds Way” which was officially opened on the day.
The Dedication Service was led by local minister, Reverend John Davis and was attended by approximately 100 people. The Open Day was also attended by Councillor Pat O’Neil, Chairman of East Riding Council, who unveiled a commemorative plaque in the grounds following the service.
Visitors to the Open Day had the opportunity to ask staff any questions they may have about the cremation process and were taken on guided tours of the crematorium and its grounds. Afternoon tea was served in the Hospitality Suite and a raffle was held in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care which raised £253. The prizes for the raffle were kindly donated by local businesses to help raise money for the charity. Throughout the day local choir, Coastal Voices, sang and provided entertainment for the visitors.
Diana Burrell, manager of the crematorium, said: “We had a brilliant Open Day and there was a fantastic turnout. I think the combination of the Open Day and the Dedication Service was very successful. After all the hard work and planning we couldn’t have wished for anything better!”
