Ken Newcombe Funeral Directors
From Carriage Master to Funeral Director
The opening of Mr Ken Newcombe's first funeral home in Cornwall was the response to a growing need. A Carriage Master by trade, he provided vehicles and drivers to many of the independent funeral directors in and around the St Austell area. As time passed and these independents retired, the former carriage master took on their business and, in 1983, Ken Newcombe opened his first funeral home to handle the demand.
Expanding the Ken Newcombe name
Sited on Bucklers Lane, Holmbush, in the parish of St Austell, the funeral home stands their today as a testament to the hard work and determination Ken Newcombe put into building a funeral directors based on the values of respect, professionalism and dignity. These core beliefs continue to guide us to this day and have been instrumental in the expansion of the Ken Newcombe name, with branches now in Newquay, St Blazey and Bodmin.
Although our St Austell funeral home will forever be associated with the founding of Ken Newcombe Funeral Directors, the additional locations also have their own character.
Funeral homes of character
The Newquay building is a former chapel, on the front wall of which is a clock commemorating the Royal British Legion that bears the legend, "Lest We Forget, For Your Tomorrow We Gave Our Today". The St Blazey location has a particularly distinctive look, having once been a Methodist church Sunday School room, and, with a memorial plaque, also commemorates those who gave their lives during two world wars. Meanwhile, our Bodmin branch is equipped with a community room, which is used by locals for coffee mornings and other similar meetings.
More than 35 years on from the opening of our first funeral home, the family-focussed commitment to quality, instilled by our founder, lives on in everything we do.
