Bill died suddenly, but peacefully, at home on Sunday 5th November. He was a loving husband to Bridget; an amazing Dad to Claire and Alastair; a fun-loving Grandad Bill to Jayden, Annaisia and Cooper, and a caring father-in-law to Kelly and is greatly missed by them all.
He was also a world respected child psychologist who has helped thousands of children around the world. He had read The Guardian for more than 50 years so the family were very pleased that the paper commissioned a full obituary on Bill which was posted online on 28th November:

After his official retirement in 2005 Bill continued to work several days a week in the UK and also travelled to many countries delivering training in TRT (Teaching Recovery Techniques). Less than two weeks before his untimely death he was delivering training via Zoom to Turkish volunteers dealing with the traumatic aftermath of the earthquakes that devastated their country in February 2023.
Outside work he enjoyed reading, painting watercolours, visiting art galleries, going to the theatre, gardening and completing the Guardian Quick Crossword and Sudoku.
Bridget, Claire and Alastair have been overwhelmed by the number of cards, messages and emails they have received from wider family, friends, neighbours and colleagues in the UK and around the world. These have been a source of great comfort to them at such a difficult time and they would like to thank you all for your kindness, love and support.
They have requested no flowers but instead donations can be made in Bill’s memory to the charity he co-founded: Children and War UK. To make a donation you can either click on this link:

or bring cash or a cheque - made out to: Children and War (UK) – to the reception and place in the donation box there.
At the funeral you do not have to wear black, unless you want to – please be as comfortable and colourful as you wish.
If you are unable to attend on the day, you can watch the service which will be live streamed (but please do not pass this link onto anyone else). Please use the link below:
