It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Professor John David Maitland Wright, the beloved, kind and generous husband of Harvinder, who passed away on 7th August aged 81 years. John will be greatly missed by his close family, friends and all those who knew and loved him. May he Rest in Peace.

John was an eminent mathematician, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1978. He graduated with first class honours from University of Aberdeen in 1964. He then moved to Oxford and worked under the supervision of David Edwards, obtaining his doctorate in 1967 and was awarded the Oxford Senior Mathematical Prize and Johnson Prize for his thesis on measure theory. At the young age of 28, he was appointed Professor of pure mathematics at the University of Reading and subsequently Head of Department. His affection for Christ Church was very great. He would be pleased that his send-off will be from the place which was associated with some of his happiest memories. The flag is flying at half-mast at St Catherine’s College, with which he had long associations.

After the service, the family will be leaving for a burial service at Wolvercote Cemetery. They will be returning to Christ Church afterwards and warmly invite all those who wish to stay, to a buffet lunch in the Thatched Barn, approximately 1.30pm. Non family members are welcome to wait at Christ Church. PLEASE RSVP ( N/A ) IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND LUNCH so numbers can be catered for. Thank you.

Christ Church (St. Aldates, Oxford, Oxfordshire, OX1 1DP) are opening the Broadwalk for parking, and so Guests do not need to park at Redbridge Park and Ride on this occasion.
