Our beloved Mum, Kate Aitken, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 9th May, 2024. She was 77.
Kate is survived by her two sons, Stuart and Douglas, Daughter in law to Fi, her brother Derek and her grandchildren Sophia and Emme.
Kate was known for her fiercely independent nature, her strong sense of kindness and fairness, and for her devotion to various charitable causes including the Royal Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children and Soroptimist International. Her family and close friends were very much the center of her life, along with a lifelong passion for France, its country, culture and People, having spent a long career teaching the language, traveling all over and making numerous connections and relationships with her French Colleagues. Mum sought out new adventures at the end of her working life as Assistant Head Teacher at Kinlochbervie High School where she found a much loved second home amongst the spectacular landscape of the North West Scottish Highlands.
In her latter years Mum fought a long battle with Dementia, and the family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the fantastic care team and staff at Queens Bay Nursing Home in Edinburgh who looked after her comfort and wellbeing.
Mum was very much the heart and soul of our family and she will be very sadly missed.
