Crematorium information
Hawkinge Crematorium sits within the site of Hawkinge Cemetery and around 6 acres of beautifully landscaped and tended Gardens of Remembrance. The chapel was originally built in 1929 as a cemetery chapel and then converted to a crematorium in 1956 which has now been modernised.
The crematorium is situated not too far from an old airfield used by Spitfire and Hurricane pilots during the Battle of Britain, and two of the gardens of remembrance are named after these planes. The film Battle of Britain was largely filmed at Hawkinge and the nearby Jackdaw public house. We are regularly on the flight path of Spitfire experience flights, the iconic aeroplanes can be seen flying above us in the Summer months.
Our chapel has been redesigned to give a light, airy and welcoming feel. We can seat up to 63 people. We do have an extended section at the back of the chapel with visual screens and a speaker system if there are congregation that cannot be seated inside the chapel.
As part of our commitment to caring for local families we offer a service time of 45 minutes, meaning that families can take their time in the chapel to remember their loved one.
We are equipped with a music system that allows us to provide music, webcasting, visual tributes and recordings. This is also combined with our hearing loop system.
The crematorium also has access for the less-abled and accessible toilets.
Our gardens of remembrance, known as Meadow Gardens, are maturing over time giving a peaceful and serene place to sit and contemplate. We have encouraged some diverse wildlife such as dragonflies, butterflies and moths, various bees and insects, toads, frogs and even a heron. We have even been part of a tree planting scheme with the local council and now have over 100 trees and indigenous hedgerow. We are constantly extending our gardens to create new memorial areas in which our loved ones can be laid to rest.
Our peaceful gardens of remembrance offer a variety of personalised memorials for you to choose from. Ashes can be scattered in our gardens and we can offer advice and guidance on plaques, roses and bespoke private gardens. Our memorial staff are here for you, please book in with us so we can show you all of our lovely memorials before making your choice.

It is important to us that any confusion is completely removed to help families to fully understand what the Cremation Fee includes, and what this means as part of the wider cost of the funeral. We have outlined the elements that are necessary to provide a cremation service to you below, although of course we would be happy to discuss any further queries you might have directly with you. You can contact us at any time to talk through any further options and any fees that might apply.
The cremation fee includes the following:
- All professional services relating to the administration and registration of the cremation, in line with statutory regulation.
